The current lockdown period, the number of cyber crime cases has increased
significantly. Many types of online fraud are being exposed day by day. Hackers
are seen using new tricks to defraud. Meanwhile, cases of SIM swapping fraud are
on the rise. Now, hope has come to the fore. Hackers have taken out Rs 9 lakh from
a woman's account as a customer care executive in connection with a woman's 4G SIM card. The case was reported in the Noida area near New Delhi.
⧭ What is SIM swapping?
These cases, hackers ask SIM card users for the 20-digit
'ICCID' number on their card.
Ask for a special offer and reply to a number. When a user replies or clicks on this
number, the user's mobile phone network disappears and 'SIM swapping' begins.
When you give hackers an 'ICCID' SIM card number, hackers create a fake
SIM card with that number.
When you reply to a message from a hacker, the company thinks
you are asking for a new SIM card.
All this process is completed in 2 to 3 hours. At times, customers may not even
notice that your SIM has been swapped.
This type of fraud, hackers already have the user's bank account number and
ATM number and a lot of such information. They have got all this information
through phishing scams.
They need an OTP from the user's bank, which is very easy to get after
swapping the SIM.
The user does not even know that the money has been withdrawn from account.
As a result, the user's bank account becomes empty and the user does not even
get the information that money has been withdrawn from his account.
