One of the most used social media apps in lockdown is using both
whatsapp and facebook apps to share important details from interacting
with each other to video calls. But in this time of lockdown, cyber crime
and online hacking are on the rise.
Another new scam has surfaced on WhatsApp, claiming that the
WhatsApp technology team is the official source of communication and is
asking for a 2-step verification code. They have used WhatsApp's profile photo
to verify the authenticity of this account.
Users need to be wary of such scams.WhatsApp does not message WhatsApp to
any users. If any announcement or information is to be given, the official tweet is
given or information is given from the block.
WABetaInfo, the block that tracks WhatsApp's features, has tweeted
about the new scam. Twitter user Dario Navarro inquired about the scam
message received from users. According to a screenshot shared by Navarro
on social media, the scammer sent a message in Spanish. He asked for a mobile
number and a verification code.
Do not share any information about OTP, mobile number, code for two step verification in your mobile. It has been said that such messages are fake.
