The mobile app Truecaller has offered the personal data of 4.7 crore Indians
for sale on the Dark Web for Rs 75,000, claims online intelligence firm
Cyber Cells in a report. This claim of Cyber Cells caused a stir among the
users in India. But this claim has been rejected by Truecaller.
The data available in Truecaller is for 2019. Which is shared on the
Dark Web by dividing it into categories like State, City and Personal.
The leaked data includes the user's name, mobile number, profession,
gender, email ID, Facebook ID and other content, Cyber Cells said in a report.
But Truecaller has denied the allegations.
Truecaller rejected the Cyber Cells report
'I thank them for drawing our attention to such things. None of our data has been leaked.
The information of all our users is safe. We are very concerned about the safety of our
users and we are providing our services honestly, "said a spokesperson for Truecaller.
A spokesman for Trucaller said: "It was reported in May 2019 that the data was leaked. This task is easy for some fake companies. They create such data and sell it under our name. This makes it easier for them to sell data in the market. We urge all of them not to fall prey to such fake companies, their job is just to deceive people and make money. '
'We do not upload users' phonebooks. Our database is already full of users. They are updating and blocking numbers themselves, a Truecaller spokesperson said. Cyber Cells has not yet commented on Truecaller's statement.
