Initially, the number would start with only 9, then the numbers came to 8, 7, 6.
As per the information received now, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India
has submitted a proposal. It says that from now on mobile numbers should be 11 digits.
Sources also said that the number is likely to come into use in a few days. Therefore,
there are indications that the ten-digit number will be closed in a few days. After this
proposal, existing customers will have to take an 11-digit number.
Therefore, more mobile numbers will be available. If the first number of the mobile
number is kept as 9, then going from 10 to 11 digits will create a total capacity of
1000 crore numbers in the country.
Troy said that 70 per cent usage and the current plan would be enough to provide
700 crore connections in the country.
